● 모든 이들을 위한 <성 요한 23세 교종의 매일 10계명 The daily decalogue of Pope John XXIII>을 새깁니다
☞…교종께서는 교회가 어머니의 얼굴을 하고 있다고 생각합니다. 어머니의 일은 "팔을 활짝 벌리고 모든 이를 받아들이는 것"입니다. 어머니인 교회는 " 모든 이들의 보금자리가 되기를 바라는 모든 이들의 집이며 특히 마을의 샘처럼 가난한 이들의 교회"입니다. 거기에는 인종이나 종교의 차별이 없습니다. The Church, in his view, has a motherly face: her task is to keep "her arms open to receive everyone". She is a "home for one and all" that "desires to belong to everyone, and in particular she is the Church of the poor, like the village fountain", with no distinctions of race or religion.…
…교회의 거룩함과 인간의 지혜는 이른바 "요한 23세 교종의 매일 십계명"에 아주 또렷하게 나타나 있습니다. The Church's holiness and human wisdom are expressed very clearly in what is called "The daily decalogue of Pope John XXIII":
1) 오늘 하루만이라도, 내 삶의 문제를 한꺼번에 해결하려 들지 않고 오늘 하루를 긍정적으로 살려고 노력하겠다. Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.
2) 오늘 하루만이라도, 내 모습에 최대한 주의를 기울이겠다. 복장은 소박하게 하고 목소리를 높이지 않겠다. 행동은 공손하고 아무도 비판하지 않겠다. 남이 아닌 나 자신만을 개선하거나 가르치겠다. Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my appearance: I will dress modestly; I will not raise my voice; I will be courteous in my behaviour; I will not criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to discipline anyone except myself.
3) 오늘 하루만이라도, 이승에서나 저승에서나 행복을 위해 창조되었다는 확신으로 행복하게 살겠다. Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the other world but also in this one.
4) 오늘 하루만이라도, 모든 상황이 내가 바라는 대로 맞춰지기를 바라기보다 상황에 나를 맞추도록 하겠다. Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances, without requiring all circumstances to be adapted to my own wishes.
5) 오늘 하루만이라도, 내 시간 가운데 10분만이라도 좋은 책을 읽는 데 쓰겠다. 육신에 음식이 필요하듯이 영혼에도 건실한 책읽기는 꼭 필요함을 명심하자. Only for today, I will devote 10 minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul.
6) 오늘 하루만이라도, 아무도 모르게 착한 일 한 가지를 하겠다. Only for today, I will do one good deed and not tell anyone about it.
7) 오늘 하루만이라도, 가장 꺼리는 일 한가지를 하겠다. 혹시 기분이 상하더라도 아무도 눈치채지 못하게 하겠다. Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make sure that no one notices.
8) 오늘 하루만이라도, 나 자신의 계획을 세우겠다. 그대로 지키지 못할 수 있을지라도 세우겠다. 그리고 ‘조급함’과 ‘우유부단함’이라는 두 가지 악을 경계하겠다. Only for today, I will make a plan for myself: I may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it. And I will be on guard against two evils: hastiness and indecision.
9) 오늘 하루만이라도, 상황이 어떻든지 이 세상에 아무도 없는 것처럼 하느님의 착한 섭리가 나를 돌보고 계심을 굳게 믿겠다. Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good Providence of God cares for me as no one else who exists in this world.
10) 오늘 하루만이라도, 아무 두려움도 갖지 않겠다. 특히 거리낌 없이 아름다운 것을 즐기고 선함을 믿겠다. 짜장 평생 해야 한다면 실망할 수도 있는 일도 12시간 동안은 확실히 할 수 있다. Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness. Indeed, for 12 hours I can certainly do what might cause me consternation were I to believe I had to do it all my life.
결론적으로 모든 것을 아우르는 교종의 다짐은 바로 이겁니다. "오늘 그리고 항상 모든 이에게 친절하고 싶습니다." 이런 방법으로 우리는 모든 그리스도인에 대한 교종의 바램을 실천할 수 있습니다. "이 세상 모든 신앙인들은 대중 가운데 번쩍이는 빛이요, 사랑의 속알이며, 생명을 불어넣는 누룩이라야 합니다. 그렇게 살면 살수록 마음 깊숙한 곳에서 하느님과 더욱 더 많은 통공(친교)를 나누며 살아갈 수 있습니다." To conclude: here is an all-embracing resolution: "I want to be kind, today and always, to everyone".
